Osteopath,
Cranial Osteopath, NAET Practitioner & Western Acupuncturist
Originally from the Neston (Wirral,
Cheshire) area
Andrew returned here having attained his honours degree in osteopathy in
'98 from the British School of
Osteopathy in London. He studied as a mature student, having worked
in industry for 10 years as an instrument technician & electrician.
For 4 of his 5 years at college he participated in a voluntary clinic
treating children with Special Needs, i.e. Cerebral Palsy & Down's
Syndrome.
Since graduating further study
has included courses in:-
-
Cranial osteopathy, also
known as cranio-sacral
osteopathy
-
Visceral osteopathy
(internal organs)
-
Western Acupuncture
-
NAET - a natural approach to
allergies, hypersensitivities & food intolerance.
Andrew's areas of special interest
include:-
-
Allergies, sensitivities, intolerances
and associated problems
-
Asthma
-
Candida, fungal and yeast
problems.
-
IBS (irritable bowel
syndrome) & other bowel disorders
-
Fibromyalgia
-
ME (myalgia
encephalomyelitis
(CFS - chronic fatigue syndrome)
-
Children's problems i.e. glue
ear (otitis media with effusion)
-
Babies’ problems, such as
colic, restlessness, irritability
This is in addition to the
relatively simpler mechanical problems of musculo-skeletal aches &
pains that an osteopath deals with every working day, including:-
-
upper & low back pain / ache
-
joint & muscle pain,
including jaw pain (TMJ syndrome)
-
Headaches & migraines, which
can be also associated with TMJ & upper neck problems.
-
'whiplash’ trauma related injury
-
RSI (repetitive strain
injury)
-
frozen shoulder, impingement
syndrome & rotator cuff problems
-
tennis / golfer’s elbow
-
pains of arthritis &
osteoporosis, i.e. arthritic hip, knee, neck & back (spondylitis), etc..
Everyone is treated as an
individual and it is the person that is treated, rather than a
condition. This is keeping with the holistic way of the original classical
osteopaths of old. The very young or old would be treated using the
cranial osteopathic approach & the more robust & younger would
be offered the choice of the use of manipulation, as appropriate. This
involves the releasing or 'clicking' of joints for which osteopaths are
known.
Osteopathy FAQ's
This is actually a
very safe treatment approach that has shown in studies to be safer than
taking a course of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID's) that
can be bought over the counter. Although it also this seems to be the
treatment approach that people fear most.
It may also be of
interest that a research study showed that people who regularly used of
NSAID's over a 5 year period showed more joint degeneration than those
that didn't.
Self Help Advice is given, as
appropriate:-
-
Exercises to
aid recovery & reduce treatment required
-
Postural &
general practical advice
-
Appropriate
nutritional support
-
As above - to
avoid / minimise risk of recurrence
In some chronic (long
term) cases an occasional maintenance treatment may be advised.
Andrew is very keen to
help people understand their problem to enable them to best help
themselves & often uses a model skeleton (otherwise known as Albert)
to demonstrate this.
Andrew's clinic
hours at the Centre are usually
9.00-5.00 Tuesdays & Fridays
Please do not wait to call on the these
