Denise Willis - Chiropodist & Podiatrist

Denise Willis was born in Liverpool in 1961. She has been a qualified chiropodist since 1998.

Before coming into the Chiropody and Podiatry profession, she worked as a shorthand typist for a large building organisation in Liverpool. After getting married in 1986 she moved near to Chester and started working for a major finance house. After more than 10 years moving around the company in various roles she decided to change jobs. Denise has worked in a large hotel in Chester working for the general manager as a secretary. She has always had an interest in podiatry and in 1998 she qualified.

She has built up a busy domicillary practice visiting patients at home, who are unable to get to a clinic. Working throughout the whole of the Wirral, she also visits some residential homes. She enjoys this part of the job immensely as this gives her the chance to give a personal touch to her work. She has also worked in several clinics in the Wirral area, including the Holistic Centre when it was based in the middle of Neston.

She has lots of patients with a variety of different ailments, conditions and disabilities. Being a health care professional she feels it is important to have a good understandnig of the body as a whole and not just the feet. That said - foot problems can of course drastically compromise mobility and therefore impact general health and fitness, as well as contributing to less obvious problems i.e. knee strain, position of pelvis - affecting the entire spine, poor circulation in the legs, etc.

Denise is a member of the Institute of Chiropodists and Podiatrists were she holds the post of Secretary of the Chester, North Wales, Staffordshire and Shropshire branch. She also gained a B.Sc. degree in Podiatric Medicine where she studied at Durham University. Denise is a member of the Health Professions Council and attends regular training courses to update skills and learn new ones. With that in mind she also attends lectures and workshops designed for GP's in the Wirral and Cheshire areas. These are on a variety of health and medical subjects and not always relating to feet and foot health. Continual Professional Development is important to Denise. Communication with patients is important to her and as a podiatrist she says you have to be a good thinker, good listener and a good practitioner. She has been involved in presenting talks to local groups on podiatry.

Her outside hobbies include painting and drawing. She particularly enjoys watercolours and architecture. She is interested in music and tries to attend concerts when she can. Her family consists of a husband and a daughter. She lives in Willaston on the Wirral.
