Massage is the practice of applying structured, graded pressure, tension, motion or rhythmic force - by the hands to the tissues of the body, such as; muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments, joints and lymphatic vessels, to achieve a beneficial response. Massage is one of the oldest forms of healing/ therapy and can be applied to parts or the whole body, to heal injury, relieve psychological stress, manage pain, and improve circulation.

Massage cannot lay claim to cure illness but should not be dismissed as a luxury either. Awareness of the healing value of massage is growing rapidly. Touch is our first sensual experience along with smell, it is the link between mind and body.

The skin is the bodies largest sensory organ with millions of receptors. Massage can stimulate the release of endorphins, the natural painkillers produced by the body. It also induces a feeling of comfort and well being that can aid relaxation and reduce levels of stress.

Vigorous massage can directly affect body systems that govern heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, digestion and pain. Massage also relieves tension in the muscles and stiffness in joints, improving mobility and flexibility.
