NLP - Summary
NLP is a bit like an 'owner’s manual' for your brain!
At school and college we learned wonderful things like history and geography and algebra but we did not learn much about how to feel good or to have great relationships. That's where NLP comes in and helps teach us about what we need to successfully live our lives happily and securely.
NLP is an ever-growing collection of information and insights, backed up by a huge range of mental NLP Techniques that can enable you to improve how you think, behave and feel - and assist others do the same.
You can actively use your mind and your emotions and your body to run your own life more successfully.
The name Neuro-Linguistic Programming was invented in the early 70's as an attempt to describe this extensive body of insights and skills;
-
Neuro refers to how the mind and body interact together
-
Linguistic refers to the insights into a person’s thinking
-
Programming refers to the thinking and behavioural patterns which people use in their daily lives. Such as phobias and any form of habits (smoking)
The name is a bit of a mouthful and is certainly not NLP's strongest asset. By trying to be too comprehensive it has ended up being somewhat off-putting, either because it sounds complicated or, worse, that it sounds sinister (many people initially think the 'programming' part of the name suggests that NLP has something to do with 'being programmed'!).
But the name Neuro-Linguistic Programming has been around for over 35 years so it looks like we are stuck with it. This is why it is generally abbreviated to the initials NLP.
Many hypnotherapists also train in NLP in order to do two things. Firstly, to communicate successfully with their clients and secondly, to help their clients communicate more successfully with themselves. Remember, language is not purely about the spoken word (although the spoken word is important and NLP has developed a series of very effective spoken language patterns), language is also about silent communication e.g. body language, internal thoughts and representations etc. Some Hypnotherapists carry on further in their training to practitioner level qualification.
More detail.....
NLP offers many people a doorway to something far deeper. Once you know more about how you, as a human being work, you can use NLP to answer some truly meaningful questions, to help you more fully understand your mission in life and some of the answers to true happiness and fulfilment.
NLP focuses on strengthening your own internal resources so you can effect changes in your life and can help a massive amount of conditions and can generally improve people’s lives, whether it is just to improve business performance, breaking habitual behaviour (fear or phobia) or dealing with a difficult personal problem such as relationship breakdowns.
We are often told that our brain is the most amazing computer on the planet - but nobody ever gave us an instruction manual on how to use it. NLP offers you that information, enabling you to take more control over your thoughts, feelings action and life.
The NLP approach to inter-personal communication is to use a slightly different style with each person rather than use the one-size-fits-all approach. This is because I treat each person as a unique.
-
You can deal effectively with the past by learning and moving on from events which happened long ago but which may still be holding you back. These traumas are often masked by fears and phobias.
-
Be able to choose how you feel rather than being the victim of events. Take control of your thoughts and feelings and not allowing them to control you.
-
Understand how your mind works and how to run your mind more effectively - thereby giving you more control over how you feel and how to deal with stressful situations.
-
Help you to set goals and achieve them.
-
Failing relationships are a big factor in today’s society, NLP therapy can help you identify and change these factors in your own relationships whether they are family, friends or lovers.
Keep your thoughts positive,
because your thoughts become your words.
Keep your words positive,
because your words become your behaviours.
Keep your behaviours positive,
because your behaviours become your habits.
Keep your habits positive,
because your habits become your values.
Keep your values positive,
because your values become your destiny.

Probelms & Solutions....
NLP can help in all areas of your life where you feel changes need to be made or are unhappy with certain aspects but don’t know how to change them.
Here is an example of what we never think about in our lives but is a very important factor to living our life to the full...
Body language and rapport (people being in tune with one another): this is how we communicate with each other on a sub conscious level. For example a person having trouble making friends or sustaining relationships may go to a party and look at the floor all evening.... this person will automatically dismiss herself from others simply through her body language, which in turn gives a signal to others that is unwelcoming.
Eye contact is also an excellent way to begin creating better rapport with others.
Matching another person’s body language means adapting your own behaviour so it is somewhat similar to the other person's, this is an excellent way to gain rapport with another person.
Some popular conditions treated with NLP:
Fears and phobias:
Fears can be extremely upsetting for the sufferer, NLP therapy allows you to discover the reasons behind the fear and allows the sufferer to let go of those thoughts and feelings and replaces them with good thoughts and positive feelings.

Goal Setting:
Personal and business: NLP can help teach you how to plan goals for the future and help you to achieve these goals.
Relationship problems:
Each time we move on to a new relationship we tend to take with us a bit of the past and If you have problems settling into or sustaining relationships this can help identify the problems we are carrying on and can help change these problems whilst starting with a fresh outlook.

Using NLP techniques for this area can help build your confidence, self esteem and self worth, goal setting, assertiveness plus much more in helping you in this area.
Past traumas:
Including, rape, abuse, grief, loss, redundancy, illness and weight issues and childhood traumas.
These can be very difficult to forget and move forward and whilst it is very unlikely that we will never forget these traumas we can stop them from being at the forefront of our minds every day. We can learn to gives these traumas a place in our past and move on without them.
Habits and Addictions:
These habits such as smoking, alcoholism, legal or illegal drug use all quickly become a habit as well as an addiction which means you have twice the battle. We can help using NLP techniques combined with the other techniques as stated below in helping to re programme your mind and body in a different way which allows you to choose your own thought pattern and behaviour instead of allowing it to control you.
Anxiety and depression:
Including nervous behaviour can also be helped easily and quickly by using many different techniques as stated below.
Emotional distress:
Sometimes when we have been through a traumatic experience it can alter the way we can perceive and project feelings onto others and into our lives. This is also often confusing and upsetting and we end up feeling out of control and a sense of not being able to cope with certain situations or emotions.
