Hypnotherapy
in Summary
In Hypno-Psychotherapy we can bring about positive change for
many individuals seeking help with conditions such as Stress, Phobias,
low Confidence and Self-esteem, Anxiety, Exam Fear, Nail Biting,
Improving Athletic Performance, Sleep Problems, Pain Management, Weight
Loss and Stop Smoking related issues, Fear of Flying and many more.
Hypno-Psychotherapy treatment can help you explore the underlying issues
of those symptoms and bring about integration at a deep and profound
level.
Your subconscious will always release the information you need to move
on in life in a way that makes it accessible and easy for you to
understand. Sometimes the gentle and peaceful energy of Reiki can be
incorporated into Hypnotherapy to help access suppressed emotions and
assist in their gentle release and integration.
Any problem you as an individual are faced with always creates an
opportunity for personal growth and overcoming the problem will make you
stronger and more confident within yourself.
Hypno-Psychotherapy often gets to the root cause of a problem faster
than more conventional methods and the more committed and ready an
individual is to changing the better it works.
Each treatment is tailored to your individual needs. To help facilitate
your journey and assist in your process of change, I have various
techniques available such as dream work, guided imagery, NLP techniques,
EFT and regression therapy which can take you to a past life regression
experience to shed light on a current problem.
Sessions will be spaced to suit your needs, some people move on faster
than others and that is o.k., treatment can take place on a weekly or
fortnightly basis, sometimes a longer or shorter gap is required.
I may ask you to do some ‘homework’ in between treatments such as
visualisations, breathing techniques or just being more observant of
your emotions, feelings and habits.
Coming for Hypno-Psychotherapy treatment involves you in a process of
change and insight and is especially useful if a problem seems to be
recurring or one seems to be going round in circles. Hypnotherapy
treatment can then help you to break through and move on.

More about Hypnotherapy
Please be assured that
hypnotherapy is a perfectly safe, natural and entirely beneficial
process. As Dr Hilary Jones observes “Firstly, any misconceptions a
potential patient may have about hypnosis should be dispelled. The
technique does not involve the patient being put into a deep sleep, and
the patient cannot be made to do anything they would not ordinarily do.
The important thing is that the patient wants to change some behavioural
habit or addiction and is highly motivated to do so. They have to want
the treatment to work and must establish a good clinical rapport with
the therapist in order for it to do so.” [‘Doctor, What's the
Alternative?’ Hodder and Stoughton: London (1988)]
As a form of
psychotherapy, hypnosis aims to re-programme undesirable patterns of
behaviour, enabling fears, phobias, negative thoughts and suppressed
emotions to be released and replaced by a much more positive state of
mind. To achieve this, the client is guided into a progressively more
relaxed state of body and mind, with the aid of deep breathing and some
very calming and pleasant visualisations (using the mind’s eye). The
effect is very similar to drifting into a daydream, something we do many
times during the day, when the conscious mind takes a rest, as when we
are engrossed in a book or a film, without even realising that we are
then in a light state of self-hypnosis! In therapy, the patient remains
awake and in control at all times, but once the gateway between the
conscious and the subconscious is opened, the usual critical filters can
be by-passed, enabling the hypnotherapist to plant the desired positive
suggestions and affirmations directly into the inner mind.
The British Institute
of Hypnotherapy explains:
“People try to rely
upon the limited capacities of their conscious mind for direction
and support, even though the unconscious mind has more resources
and a better sense of reality. Consciously we tend to be very critical
and will often over analyse when attempting to problem solve. This will
then produce unproductive results such as anxiety, worry, confusion and
in some cases a loss of belief. We then become locked in a feedback loop
of negative thinking, which in turn encourages us to believe we have no
longer a sense of control. Then that old habit negative self talk cuts
in to remind us how "it won't work for me", or "what's the point it will
probably go wrong", or "I'm a failure" and so on. Many people, often
through the experience they had while growing up, develop defensive
negative attitudes, forever minimising the benefits and maximising the
difficulties in situations past, present or future.”
Hypnotherapy &
what problems a Hypnotherapist may help
Hypnotherapy is the
application of hypnosis to bring about a therapeutic change in how we
think and feel about ourselves, those around us and our environment. The
aim is to bring about positive changes to how we act and react to certain
situations, people, substances, etc.
An external
influence - the Hypnotherapist - assists in activating the inner strength
and resources of a person - the Client - with the aim of achieving
realistic goals.
The problems that
Hypnotherapy is best placed to help fall into the following groups:
Thoughts, Feelings & Ideas
People can suffer from
thoughts & feelings of low self-esteem or obsessive thoughts about someone
or something. They may not be able, for example, to let go of an unhealthy
attachment to an ex-lover or that a partner is unfaithful. Hypnotherapy
can help the client to change this.
Phobias
Many people experience
irrational fears of a variety of insects, animals, objects or situations
and Hypnotherapy is renowned for its effectiveness in assisting sufferers
to overcome these potentially very distressing and inhibiting conditions.
Feelings
People can suffer from a
wide variety of distressing feelings such as panic attacks, anxiety,
jealousy, guilt, anger or inadequacy. Whatever the problem feeling,
Hypnotherapy can help deal with it more specifically than drug
therapy and without risk of any associated & potentially harmful side
effects.
Habits
People can find
themselves gripped by any of a huge range of habits, that they seem
unable to control. These can range from something like nail biting,
smoking to more deep-seated compulsive disorders. Hypnotherapy, using
hypnotic techniques, can help to remove habits with precision and without
the side effects associated with 'so called' anti-psychotic drugs.
