About homeopathy

Homeopathy is a natural form of medicine that is safe for all ages. Gentle yet powerful it uses diluted, potentised remedies that are made from natural substances such as plants and minerals. These remedies are safe to take and side-effects are rare.

Homeopathy has been developed over two hundred years into a modern system of medicine that treats you holistically as an individual. It works by stimulating your body’s own healing response and can quickly improve your energy and well-being.

Homeopathy is suitable for adults, the elderly, babies and children as well as during pregnancy. It is used to treat both recent (acute) and long-standing (chronic) illnesses and can be effective with most health complaints.

Homeopathy can be helpful with:
  • Skin problems – eczema, psoriasis etc.

  • Respiratory problems – asthma, hay fever

  • Fatigue, insomnia, ME/CFS

  • Migraines, sinusitis

  • High blood pressure and other effects of stress

  • Digestive disorders – IBS, Colitis etc.

  • Menstrual and menopausal problems

  • Cystitis, urinary and prostate problems

  • Emotional states: grief, trauma, stress, anxiety and depression

  • And much more …!

It can also help with everyday health problems such as colds and flu, ear infections, headaches and stomach upsets.

Homeopathic remedies work by gently boosting the natural energy of your body. Remedies are given in tablet or liquid form. Clear instructions are given for taking the remedy which may be a single or repeated dose.

Homeopathy: from Greek hómoios- ὅμοιος- "like-" + páthos πάθος "suffering".

Alternative spellings for Homeopathy - Homoeopathy or Homœopathy.

More About Homeopathy

Homeopathy is a natural form of medicine that works by stimulating your body’s own healing response. It can quickly improve your energy and well-being and help you sustain a healthy lifestyle.

The word “homeopathy” is derived from Greek words meaning “similar disease” and homeopathy aims to treat with a remedy that produces an effect similar to a person’s illness or disease. In other words homeopathy works on the principle of “like cures like”. For example if a healthy person takes Coffea (un-roasted coffee) they may become restless, on edge and unable to sleep; therefore Coffea can be used as a very dilute or 'potentised' remedy for someone suffering from insomnia.

The law of similars (like cures like) was known and used in ancient Greece and today it also forms the basis of conventional allergy treatment where the allergenic substance is given in a small dose and in vaccines. Homeopathy itself was developed in Germany in the nineteenth century and since then it has evolved into a modern system of medicine that is widely used across Europe, the Indian sub continent and the USA.

Gentle yet powerful, homeopathy uses diluted potentised remedies made from natural substances such as plants or minerals. Over 2,500 remedies are in common use. The original substance is repeatedly diluted in water and vigorously shaken with each dilution. Because they are diluted the remedies are very safe but they can act very strongly when used properly. It is as if the remedy holds the memory or signature of the original substance. Remedies are tested blind by human volunteers who record the symptoms that they experience.

Homeopathy treats the whole body and can therefore be effective with most health complaints. It is used to treat both recent and long-standing illnesses. Its gentle and non-invasive nature means that it is suitable for adults, the elderly, babies and children, as well as during pregnancy.

There are many clinical studies of homeopathy which show that homeopathy can be effective. Some of the studies have been published in medical journals such as The Lancet.

Homeopathic Treatment

Your treatment will start with a consultation that includes a full medical history, diagnosis, prescription of a remedy and recommendations for diet and lifestyle. All aspects of your treatment are strictly confidential.

Your first consultation will last for 90 minutes and the aim is to build up a complete picture of both you and your illness. I will then be able to select a remedy that matches your unique individual picture. Normally a follow-up appointment will be arranged after 4-6 weeks to assess the effect of the remedy.

The remedy will be given in tablet or liquid form. Clear instructions will be given for taking the remedy which may be in a single or repeated dose.

The aim is for the remedy to address the cause of your illness, relieve symptoms and increase your energy. This can be a gradual process and you can help by monitoring any changes.

The advantages of homeopathy:
  • Homeopathic remedies encourage your own body to cure itself naturally.

  • Homeopathy treats the whole person not just the symptoms or the disease.

  • Homeopathic remedies work in harmony with your immune system and are not addictive.

  • Homeopathic medicines are easy to take and pleasant to taste.

  • Homeopathic remedies are non toxic and non habit forming.

  • Remedies are not tested on animals and side effects are rare.

  • Plants and minerals are the main sources.

  • It can be used alongside conventional treatment or on its own.

Who and What can Homeopathy Help?

Homeopathy can be used by anyone of any age for most physical and emotional complaints. It can also help where other forms of medicine find the symptoms too vague to treat but you know something is not right.

Homeopathy is used to treat both acute (recent) and chronic (long-standing) illnesses. Its gentle and non-invasive nature means that it is suitable for adults, the elderly, babies and children, as well as during pregnancy.

  • And much more …!

It can also help with everyday health problems such as colds and flu, ear infections, headaches and stomach upsets.

Homeopathy can help patients affected by mental stress, emotional problems arising from emotional trauma or grief and mood disorders such as anger, depression or anxiety. Homeopathy has also played an important role in flu epidemics in the past and in treating other infectious diseases such as cholera.

Having said that, the homeopath does not aim to treat specific diseases but the person who is ill. All of the the patient’s symptoms whether physical, mental or emotional, form a whole that represents a state of imbalance that is unique to this individual. This unique expression of a patient’s symptoms guides the homeopath in choosing a remedy that is most similar to the patient’s disease.

Homeopathy may not replace the need for surgery but it can help in both preparing for surgery and in speeding recovery afterwards. Similarly homeopathy cannot promise full recovery from severe illnesses such as cancer or congenital illnesses but it can play an important palliative role working alongside conventional medicine.

Homeopathic remedies can be taken alongside conventional medicine. However we recommend that you inform your GP that you are receiving homeopathic treatment.

What is homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a natural form of medicine that works by stimulating your body’s own healing response. It can quickly improve your energy and well-being and help you sustain a healthy lifestyle.

Homeopathy has been developed over two hundred years into a modern system of medicine. Gentle yet powerful, it uses diluted potentised remedies made from natural substances such as plants or minerals. Homeopathy means “similar illness” and it works on the principle of like cures like.

What is the difference between homeopathy and herbalism?

Homeopathy uses diluted, potentised remedies made from substances found in nature such as minerals as well as plants. Herbal medicine uses crude (undiluted) quantities of botanical or plant substances and does not use medicines made from minerals and other substances. In prescribing a remedy homeopathy uses the law of similars or “like cures like”. For example onion is sometimes used as a hay fever remedy because in its natural state it can cause sneezing and burning, watery eyes.

What are homeopathic remedies?

Homeopathy uses diluted potentised remedies made from natural substances such as plants or minerals. Over 2,500 remedies are in common use. The original substance is repeatedly diluted in water and vigorously shaken with each dilution. Because they are diluted the remedies are very safe but they can act very strongly when used properly. It is as if the diluted remedy holds the memory or signature of the original substance. Remedies are tested blind by human volunteers who record the symptoms that they experience.

Who uses homeopathy?

The answer is quite simple – anyone! People are attracted to it because of its gentleness, power and ability to treat everyone as an individual. Many are first drawn to homeopathy as an alternative to potentially harmful drugs. It is safe and effective in treating adults, children, the elderly, pregnant women, and weak or fragile patients.

What is the treatment like?

When you attend for a consultation the homeopath will spend the necessary time getting to know all about you. You will be asked many questions about yourself, your lifestyle, the past health of yourself and your family, and about your illness. After your case has been carefully considered you will be prescribed a remedy, usually in the form of pills, powders or tablets which are easy to take and have a pleasant taste. They are non toxic, and not habit forming.

What can I expect?

Patients often feel a sense of well-being and optimism after taking a remedy. It occasionally happens that your symptoms may appear a little worse for a short time. This is a positive sign and shows that the remedy is taking effect, soon after which you will begin to feel that recovery is indeed taking place.

How much does it cost?

First consultation - £55.00

This includes a 90 minute consultation; a full analysis of your case by your homeopath (which may take a few hours) and your first remedy.

Follow-up consultation - £30.00

This includes a 50 minute consultation to discuss how the remedy has acted and what further treatment may be required, and your second remedy.
Follow-up consultations are arranged 4-6 weeks after your first consultation. In most cases two or three follow-up consultations may be needed depending on the complexity of the case.

Additional remedies and creams are charged at cost.

Consultations for acute illnesses (e.g. coughs, ear infections etc) take 30 minutes, either by phone or in person and cost £15 plus the cost of your remedy.

What is homeopathy? (2)

Homeopathy is a complete system of medicine that is entirely natural. It is complete because it can be applied to any condition or disease, and natural because it works by stimulating the body to heal itself. Homeopathy works on the basis that given the right stimulus the body can overcome virtually any disease. This is provided in the form of an immensely diluted and potentised remedy.
